Marcel Koller compares the Corona crisis to a football game

The FCB coach, like so many, has a great longing for football, but Marcel Koller believes it still needs patience. “We need more patience and perseverance. I like to compare it to a football game: If the opponent puts pressure on you, you have to hold on to it and stay tuned,” he says in an interview with “bz”.

«We have never seen anything like it. It is therefore not only a very difficult phase as a football coach, »continued Koller.

«The closeness to others is missing»

But Zurich is not only lacking football, Koller also misses contact with other people: “It is extremely difficult. When you go shopping, everyone has respect and avoids other people because they are afraid of being infected ».

“The fact that you can pat someone off or hug you is what is missing the most,” added Koller. The FCB are currently training three times online, which the FCB trainer is monitoring.

«I try to pull the positive out of the current situation»

It is also a big challenge to keep the players motivated. After all, you don’t know when everything will finally be over. Nevertheless, the former coach of the Austrian national team has more time for other things: “I can do more sports again or muck out the apartment”.

In the Grisons nature, Koller can also recover from football and enjoy nature: “I try to take the positive out of the current situation”.

Thoughts revolve around football

Nevertheless, the FCB coach’s thoughts often revolve around football: “You study things like tactics or the direction of the game, or that currently injured players may be healthy when the ball rolls again. Or you consider how you can help. Of course, I participated in the players’ fundraiser ».

However, Koller was not involved in the wage situation, but informed: “For me it is clear that such considerations have to be made and discussed,” says the former GC player about the shit storm.

Talks about the contract are put on hold

But he is not worried about his contract: «I’ll wait and see what the Federal Council decides and when it can be played again. I have too much experience to speculate about myself and how things will go with me, and the situation is too extraordinary for that ».

The club had no further talks with Koller at the moment: “The talks with the club management are put on hold. But it is not up to me to take a step there, it should come from them. If this comes, it comes, and if not, it means to wait. »

Nature is recovering like never before

Marcel Koller also recognizes the positive aspects of the Corona crisis: «Animals suddenly emerge in the sea or in Venice dolphins are spotted in the canals. Then you have to ask yourself: Do we want to continue as before or are there feasible alternatives? »Explains the FCB coach.

«Everyone goes their own way because they think it’s the right one. It would be important to be more concerned and to be more respectful. I really hope that this will not only last for a week or two after the end of the crisis, but for a longer period, ”says Marcel Koller at the end of the“ BZ ”interview.
