Marcel & Gijs Talk Show Episode One: Quarrels with VI Trio and Cancel Culture in the Netherlands

“It still smells like Wilfred Genee here,” says Marcel to Gijs. Then Gijs refers to the ‘quarrel’ that Marcel had the last time with the VI trio Wilfred Genee, René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen.

“I didn’t get into a fight, I was there,” says Marcel. “I didn’t get into a fight, I was there. It was just about ‘Greengrocer’.” René and Marcel in particular got into a discussion about the nickname René gave to Gijs Groenteman.

“Shall we go to our own set?” Gijs finally asks Marcel. Then the two gentlemen move to the studio of their talk show Marcel & Gijswhich resembles their NPO show Media Inside.

Then Jan Slagter is sitting at the table, with whom Marcel and Gijs have had ‘something’ on several occasions. “Something has happened sometimes”, the Omroep MAX boss also indicates, who then empties about the cancel culture in the Netherlands. For example, he thinks that big names such as Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, Tom Egbers and Frans Klein have been punished too quickly and too harshly.
