Marcel Fratzscher is a scientist, author and columnist on economic and socio-political topics. He is President of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) – one of the leading and independent economic research institutes and think tanks in Europe – and Professor of Macroeconomics at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He is a member of the United Nations High-level Advisory Board on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a member of the Franco-German Council of Economic Experts of the Governments of Germany and France, co-editor of the Journal of International Economics, member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Economics and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hertie School of Governance. He is committed to equal opportunities for disadvantaged children as a member of committees of the Kreuzberger Kinderstiftung, Deutschland Rundet Auf and Welthungerhilfe. His work focuses on topics of macroeconomics, inequality and the integration of Europe. Since 2014 he has published three books in German and English on these topics, has a bi-weekly column on Zeit Online on distribution issues and regularly publishes comments in German and English-language media such as the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and Project Syndicate. He is one of the best published German-speaking economists and has received awards for his scientific and journalistic work. He is German and European.
