Marca: ‘Marko and Horner are probably trying to close a deal with Mercedes’

Red Bull Racing may be driving the motorcycles during the 2022 season Mercedes. Now that Honda is pulling the plug from the Formula 1 project after next year, Red Bull has to look for another supplier. According to the Spanish newspaper Brand it is likely that they will knock on the door of the reigning world champion.

Full of hope, Red Bull got married at the end of 2017 with motorcycle manufacturer Honda. At first only with the Scuderia team Red Bull, but later also with the main force. After a gap year in 2019, Red Bull and Honda would be making a serious shot at the world title this season. While the season isn’t over yet, the title odds are. Honda will make a final attempt next year before pulling the plug on its Formula 1 project. The Japanese want to work climate neutral and participation in Formula 1 does not fit in with that. Red Bull is literally left with ‘a gap to be filled’. Which engine should be placed in the RB18?

Red Bull has been cornered by Honda’s decision. Who wants to provide the team from Milton Keynes with motorcycles? Going back to the power sources of Renault seems out of the question, as the relationship between the French manufacturer and Red Bull has cooled considerably. Also Ferrari doesn’t seem like a logical option. The Italians’ engine is currently extremely weak and Ferrari is also a major competitor to Red Bull Racing. Maybe Mercedes is a good option? At the Spanish newspaper Brand they think so. The chances for Red Bull will be even greater if Mercedes decides firmly to remain active only as an engine supplier in the top class of motorsport, something that has been suggested for some time.

“Red Bull is now facing the mission to find an engine for 2022,” the Spanish medium writes. “It will have to do that urgently, as it is a car already being designed at Milton Keynes headquarters.” A cat in a corner makes strange jumps and therefore thinks Brand that Red Bull is going to call on its biggest competitor: Mercedes. “Most likely Helmut Marko and Christian Horner will try to reach an agreement with Mercedes AMG F1, a division that has an interest in only supplying multiple F1 teams and may therefore no longer need its own team.”
