Marc Marquez: Honda MotoGP team ‘the team of my life’ and doesn’t want to close the door

Marc Marquez has said that the Honda MotoGP team is “the team of my life” and reiterated that he “doesn’t want to close the door” when he returns someday. Eight-time Grand Prix World Champion Marc Marquez will compete next season with Gresini Ducati after a disastrous 2023 season that saw him leave Honda with one year left on his contract.

Marquez has spent his MotoGP career with Honda since his debut in 2013, winning six titles and 59 wins in the premier class. Since announcing his departure from Honda, Marquez has never closed the door on the possibility of a return at some point, but at November’s Valencia Grand Prix he admitted it was “not just my decision”. Asked if he would consider returning to Honda if the situation within the manufacturer improved, Marquez replied: “I never want to close the door.” “I’ve said it in several interviews in the past and I’ll say it again: Our relationship with Honda has been great and it was by mutual consent that we decided to change our journey and end our relationship.” “We completely respect that because we don’t want to put Honda in a very critical moment. We want to keep the door open for Honda. “Other manufacturers may not want to listen, but Honda is the team of my life and career.” “I have achieved six world titles and many victories, a number that cannot be achieved with any other manufacturer.” “Honda will always be the most special team in my heart.” I will continue, but I will see if our futures can intersect again. It’s not up to me alone to decide.” Marquez’s position at Honda in 2024 has seen him sign a two-year contract with the Japanese manufacturer. Luca Marini takes over. Joan Mir praised the 2024 Honda machine brought to the end-of-season Valencia test, saying it was the first time he had tried something that actually worked on the RC213V. Marquez’s debut test with Ducati ended in fourth place, just 0.171 seconds behind the leader.
