A test conducted at a hospital in Hamburg on two people suspected of being infected with the dangerous Marburg virus did not confirm the presence of this microorganism, the authorities informed.

The people tested flew from Rwanda to Frankfurt and from there went by train to Hamburg. During the trip, one of them contacted doctors in Hamburg, because she was afraid that she had contracted a tropical disease in Rwanda. Rwanda is currently struggling with the Marburg virus, which has already killed 8 people.
The competent health authority in Hamburg decided to immediately isolate both people at the main train station.
Local authorities said one of these people recently worked at a hospital in Rwanda where people infected with the Marburg virus were treated. A medical student who had contact with a sick person will be followed until the end of the incubation period of a maximum of 21 days – reported the DPA agency.
At no stage of the journey from Rwanda through Frankfurt to Hamburg was the safety of fellow passengers at risk – it was emphasized.

Marburg virus: suspected in Germany
As a precautionary measure, the contact details of train passengers who may have come into contact with them were recorded. Authorities have said quarantine measures are not necessary at this time. According to Deutsche Bahn On average, 275 passengers traveled on the train.

The Marburg virus is closely related to the Ebola virus and is considered even more dangerous. The mortality rate in case of infection is up to 90 percent of cases. It causes hemorrhagic fever, accompanied by serious symptoms such as:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- diarrhea,
- internal and external bleeding.
Eight people died after being infected with the Marburg virus. The mortality rate reaches 88%.

By Saturday, six people had died from the virus in Rwanda and 20 were infected. On Monday, Health Minister Sabin Nsanzimana announced two more deaths and six new infections.
Most of those affected are healthcare workers working in intensive care units
– explained the minister.
To prevent the spread of the epidemic, the authorities introduced restrictions on Monday allowing only 50 people to attend funerals of those who died from the virus. Traditional home vigils and leaving open coffins with bodies in churches and mosques were also banned. Visitors are banned in hospitals where people with symptoms of the virus are being treated for the next two weeks.
