Marburg virus confirmed in Equatorial Guinea; 9 death

Marburg virus confirmed in Equatorial Guinea. Health Minister Mitoha Ondo Ayekaba said at a press conference that nine people have died due to the virus. He announced that a province had been quarantined. The newly reported Marburg virus belongs to the Ebola virus family.

Nine deaths occurred between January 7 and February 7. The health minister said a health alert has been declared in Key-Entem province and the neighboring district of Mongomo. 4,325 people in K-Ntem have been quarantined. He added that the lockdown will be implemented after consultation with the World Health Organization and the United Nations.
