The Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon will advance more than 20,600 euros to help those affected by covid-19, an amount raised with solidarity registrations among the 30,000 participants who in February exhausted the same number of bibs for the test scheduled for next December 6, 2020.
The Valencia Marathon, organized by the SD Correcaminos and the Ajuntament de València, and the thousands of runners who have registered will collaborate with their solidarity contributions to help those affected by COVID-19 thanks to the program ‘A tu lado’ que Save the Children, a charity for the 40th edition of the Valencia Marathon, has started in the delicate situation that this health crisis is causing worldwide.
During the trial registration process, almost 7,000 runners contributed 3 euros to the charity, which amounts to more than 20,600 euros. The Marathon Organization, together with Save the Children, have decided not to wait any longer, and in the face of the serious health emergency, to start helping as soon as possible.
From this moment, this sum is destined to help families in a situation of helplessness or need due to the coronavirus crisis. With this initiative, the Valencia Marathon joins the «By your side» program with which the NGO is assisting 2,000 vulnerable families through its emergency intervention in this social project focused on giving economic, educational and psychological support to homes with children who are at risk of exclusion.
Challenge in the networks to increase the solidarity contribution
With the aim of increasing this contribution, the Valencia Marathon and Save the Children have activated a charitable challenge in the social networks of the test with which they seek to obtain during the next five months and three weeks another 15,000 euros with which to help alleviate the situation of many families whose children do not have access to basic food, educational reinforcement, internet and electronic devices, and psychological support. In just a few hours, another nearly a thousand euros have already been raised.
To this voluntary amount of the runners in their registration and the one that is achieved with this new joint challenge, will be added the contribution of the Fundación Trinidad Alfonso, main collaborator, in its action ‘€ 1 for each runner in goal’, which every year It is exceeded and that for this edition it already had an absolute record of enrolled in the test: 30,000.
To this we must add the inscriptions of the Valencia MAPFRE Mini Marathon, since the participation of the children in this children’s test that is held the day before the marathon is always intended by the solidarity entity. Both initiatives, and the new challenge #ATuLado, will considerably increase the contribution to the fight against COVID-19 in 2020.
Paco Borao, president of SD Correcaminos and race director, assured that “the Marathon has always shown a commitment to solidarity with society and at this time it cannot fail to be up to the task, along with runners who collaborate voluntarily with your contribution, to help overcome this crisis to the most needy families ».

Extra contribution with Dorsal Platinum
In addition, to this solidarity figure we must add the extra contribution to Save the Children that the 100 Platinum bibs that the Organization put on sale to celebrate its distinction from the World Athletics have. This registration, in addition to the services that all runners have, includes a special solidarity fee of 90 euros for Save the Children.
