The initiative was launched last year, it will be repeated this year. The union of landowners of Marais Poitevin will open a lumberjacking exchange. The principle is simple, the exchange connects owners of plots to be deforested and loggers. There’s something for everyone, explains Dominique Jaubert, one of the representatives of the landowners’ union. “Sometimes the owners are sick, too old or live on the other side of France and maintaining the plots is difficult. And then there are a lot of people who need firewood with the rise in the price of wood. ‘energy.”

An information sheet is filled out with the type of wood, surface area, location and the Owners Union invites both parties to sign a contract to avoid disputes and problems. The custom is that part of the wood is left to the owner, so it is sometimes a third for the owner and the other two thirds for the lumberjack. Or a quarter and three-quarters. All paid at the price of the stere.
For several years, the ash trees of the Marais have been affected by chalarosis, a fungus which attacks trees and causes their death. It is therefore necessary to replant new species and for this, cleaning the plots is essential.
Logging sites are divided into three categories: pollarded trees, coppices and poplar head sites. They therefore require a certain knowledge. This is why the forest owners’ union is offering an information meeting in Sansais-La-Garette on Saturday 16 at 2 p.m.
