On the other hand, on Monday the 30th at the National University of the South (Colón 80, Bahía Blanca) ““I played with God” (@yojuguecondios), announced work by documentary filmmaker and cameraman from Bahia Raúl Papalardo.

With unpublished images, it is about the days that Diego spent in 1992 at the Marisol Spa, in the General Dorrego District, in the south of the province of Buenos Aires. He was then serving a 15-month ban for positive doping after his time at Napoli and was preparing to join Sevilla in Spain.

In dialogue with Page I 12, Papalardo recalled that in those times “Maradona wanted to be alone, so he came to Marisol.” His presence caused a commotion among the neighbors, who were amazed. Even today the event is remembered as relevant. “He always had very good vibes with people. He behaved like one of them,” says Papalardo.

In ““I played with God” There are images from the time and testimonies from those who lived or played with Maradona in benefit matches that were held in the area.

The courts – eleven or for informal chopping – brought together not only the locals but also the residents of nearby towns and cities. For years, Papalardo was captivated by this event and searched for unpublished images and recorded interviews with direct witnesses of the events. That’s how he got the filming of a game played in Tres Arroyos.

There are also images of the Balneario Oriente, where Diego spent long hours, many of them dedicated to fishing. Other neighbors reminded Papalardo that his presence generated joy at local gatherings in which Diego felt like one of them and, in a very good mood, he did not hesitate to take photos with children and adults. Others remember that he would call the neighbors to his rented house or he would invite himself to theirs to have some mates.

Papalardo has recorded in documentary format the lives of great athletes in the area, such as the technical director Ángel Cappa and the former Boca and national team player José Borello.

Another of his works is Bailey, about Ubaldo Fillol’s substitute goalkeeper in the ’70s team, who was also champion with Independiente. Hector “Chocolate” Baley was born in nearby Ingeniero White.

“Making a documentary about Maradona is a dream come true for me, because his presence in the area was a historical fact. Getting unpublished images about it was a painstaking job, a long time in the making. It seemed impossible to get something that is not known about him. Diego, because we thought we had seen everything. But no,” says Papalardo.
