Legendary footballer Diego Maradona was released today from the hospital, where he was recovering from brain surgery, and an ambulance took him directly to a rehabilitation clinic.
There, a 60-year-old Argentinian undergoes addiction because of his alcohol dependence, with which he has long-term problems. This was confirmed by his personal doctor Leopoldo Luque, according to whom Maradona was accompanied by a family member.
It was the withdrawal symptoms in Maradona, who would have been addicted to drugs in the past, that caused complications after the operation. “The good news is that Diego has gotten together and wants to go to rehab,” his lawyer, Matias Morla, told reporters in front of a clinic in Buenos Aires. “Diego has had some of the most difficult moments of his life, and I think it’s a miracle that they’ve uncovered the brain hemorrhage that could have cost him his life,” he added.
The 1986 world champion was hospitalized early last week three days after his 60th birthday due to exhaustion, dehydration and anemia. His release has been discussed several times, but there have always been new complications that ruined it at the last minute. First, Maradona had to undergo acute surgery on November 3 after an examination revealed a blood clot in his brain.
