Maradona is recovering well from brain surgery: ‘He’s joking again’ | NOW

Diego Maradona is recovering very well from his brain surgery. According to Leopoldo Luque, his personal physician, the legendary Argentinian is quite himself and everything is going well.

“There is no neurological damage and Diego is joking again. I am happy to see him like this. He is recovering wonderfully”, Luque told fans and media at the hospital in Olivos in the night from Wednesday to Thursday (Dutch time).

Just before that, Maradona’s lawyer said that the former World Footballer of the Year is in “great shape”. “His latest medical report looked very good. We’re getting through this,” he said.

Maradona was initially admitted to a hospital in La Plata on Monday, three days after his sixtieth birthday, with symptoms of anemia and dehydration that seemed to be linked to psychological complaints.

After investigation, however, it appeared that ‘Fluffy’ needed urgent surgery for a blood clot in the brain. He was transferred to Olivos, where an operation of about six hours took place in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Maradona is the trainer of the Argentinian Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and is considered one of the best footballers of all time. He led Argentina to the world title in Mexico in 1986 and played with Boca Juniors, FC Barcelona and Napoli, among others.
