Seville, Feb 14 (EFE) .- The Granada-born María Pérez flew this Sunday in the 35-kilometer Spanish Championships marches in Seville and smashed the Spanish record with a time of 2:44:17, nine minutes lower than that of Ainhoa Pinedo since February 2018 and what the second best global brand of all time.
The current 20 km European champion gave an exhibition at the Sevillian Parque del Alamillo circuit to become the first champion of Spain of 35 km, a debuting distance in this ninetieth edition of the Nationals, and stay 35 seconds behind the best world record (2:43:42) accredited by the Italian Eleonora Giorgi on January 26, 2020 in Grosseto.
Raquel González from Barcelona, winner in 2019, was second with 2:48:40 and Laura García Caro from Huelva third with 2:51:01, and both also lowered the previous national record for Madrid’s Äinhoa Pinedo and, together with María Pérez, achieved the minimum for the 2022 Eugene World Cups.
The marcher from Orce (Granada) dosed her strength very well in a test in which she marched in the company of Raquel González, García Caro, Mar Juárez -national champion in 2020- and Julia Takacs -winner in 2018 and Spanish record holder of 50- in the first kilometers, but from the 20th he began to make important differences with his main rivals with an impressive pace.
Thus, by kilometer 20 he already had a comfortable advantage with 1h36: 13 compared to the records of 1h37: 47 of Raquel González, 1h38: 07 of García Caro and 1h39: 43 of Mar Juárez.
There were 15 kilometers ahead and, from there, María Pérez picked up the pace to increase the differences, to the point that in the final stretch the Granada-born woman was close to surpassing the best world record of Eleonora Giorgi.
He could not achieve it, but he did destroy the national record that was held by Ainhoa Pinedo and appeared at the finish line with a time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 17 seconds.
Behind, and after the feat of the Granada, came Raquel González, second with 2:48:40, and García Caro, third with 2:51:01, who also secured the minimum for the 2022 World Cups, while fourth was Juárez, fifth Antía Chamosa and sixth Marina Peña, who, with 2h59: 09, achieved the best Spanish sub-23 mark in history.
