Mar Pérez del Solar: “Doing sports gives you inner security and protects women from the dangers we run for the simple fact of being women”

Mar Pérez del Solar has sport in her blood and skin. The niece of the legendary Gaby Pérez del Solar, she has been very clear since she was a child that sport would be her way of life. And she is what she is when she just turned 24: an outstanding surfer and surf teacher in Peru and abroad.

It doesn’t take much digging to confirm that Mar is an autonomous and self-confident woman. She travels alone to many places, always in “sport” mode, perhaps in search of the perfect wave or for the simple fact of meeting in person, an attitude that gives extra value to her job, of which she knows there are many prejudices, when reality indicates otherwise: surfing is a sport that requires a lot of discipline and Mar knew it since she was a child, it is not for nothing that her parents instilled in her a love of sport in general and not just surfing.

“I feel satisfied because with effort I am achieving my goals thanks to the discipline that sport provides, which requires sacrifices. For example, when I was in school, my friends went to parties on the weekends, I didn’t because the competitions were early on Sundays, and I almost always had to compete with people older than me because there weren’t many girls my age. Fortunately, the situation now is different, there are more girls practicing surfing,” says Mar, who is already in France to work and study during the European summer. For Mar, traveling is already part of her life and it doesn’t matter how she does it: she is a warrior who captures the intensity of surfing in her life, but beyond surfing, “what matters is playing sports, being in motion.” ”.

And adds:

“Playing sports gives you inner security and protects women from the dangers we run for the simple fact of being women. Security does not come from beauty, but from your inner strength and sport has been key for me, because it has helped me to be autonomous, to decide better and, especially, to recover from obstacles. “All women should play sports, any type of sport you like.”
