Baden-Württemberg is one of the safest federal states in Germany. But even here there are cities in which the number of crimes clearly stands out. Which city is the “most criminal”?

Next to Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg is one of the safest federal states. Nevertheless, there are of course numerous crimes that are committed in Baden-Württemberg. A map from “Germany Atlas” shows the distribution of crimes committed within a year and derived from the police crime statistics.

In 2021, there were an average of almost 5,200 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants throughout Germany. The extrapolation follows the same principle as was used in the corona pandemic for the number of cases. If you take a closer look at the criminal offenses on the map of Germany, clustered by federal state or district, you will notice that there is a strong north-south divide. In addition, cities are more often affected by crime than rural districts. The number of crimes in cities is up to 13,100 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Map shows: Freiburg im Breisgau is the most criminal city in Baden-Württemberg

Although Baden-Württemberg ranked second among the safest federal states, there are also some cities where the total crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021 was “over 7,000 and more”. This is the highest category a city or county can achieve. On the other hand, cities and counties are considered safe if they are “under 4,000”.

With a total of 9516.76 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021, Freiburg im Breisgau is by far the 1st most criminal city in Baden-Württemberg. No other city and no other district can record nearly as many crimes as the university town with around 230,000 inhabitants.

Karlsruhe and Mannheim are ranked 2nd and 3rd for the most criminal cities in Baden-Württemberg

Compared to other cities and districts in Baden-Württemberg, however, Karlsruhe (7653.13), Mannheim (7561.64), Heidelberg (7004.49), Stuttgart (6731.34) and Baden-Baden (6703.46) also have a relative high crime rate. Just like Ulm (6423.80), Pforzheim (6391.25) and Lörrach (6277.69).

With a total of 5,000 to 6,000 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, Rastatt, Offenburg and Heilbronn can’t really shine either. This shows that not only large cities, but also district and medium-sized towns are affected by crime. However, not quite as strong. echo24.de reports: It really is that dangerous in Heilbronn.

According to crime statistics, the Enzkreis is the safest district in Baden-Württemberg

As shocking as these numbers are, it is encouraging to note that the majority of counties and cities are below 4,000 total crimes per 100,000 people. A particularly positive example here is the Enz district with 2543.15 crimes, if one can speak of a positive crime at all. Either way, it is definitely the district with the lowest number of crimes.
