MAP: Where is there a risk of flooding and until when does the current warning of the Czech Republic’s CHMÚ last?

Until Sunday, the Czech Republic will be affected by a low pressure associated with a frontal interface. The result is expected to be extreme rainfall, strong winds, swollen rivers and imminent flooding. Meteorologists’ weather forecasts also report possible catastrophic scenarios. Where is the greatest danger?

  • From Friday, there is a threat of extreme floods, especially in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, the situation is reminiscent of the floods of 1997 and 2002.
  • Precipitation of up to 300 mm is expected in the Jeseníky area, other parts of the Czech Republic may experience precipitation of 150 – 250 mm.

MAP: The CHMÚ alert warns of extreme weather|ČHMÚ

Until Sunday 9/15, according to the weather forecast, precipitation should be variable – from light to extreme, with several tens of millimeters in a few hours. The most serious situation is supposed to be in the mountains, especially in the Jeseníky area.

As a result of heavy rains, sharp rises in river levels can be expected from Friday evening, while to reach of the third degree of flood activity could occur during Saturday and Sunday. The most significant outflow of water is expected in the basins of Jeseníky and other northeastern mountains.
