Data on the coronavirus situation in France continues to be closely monitored. More and more departments are once again becoming areas of vigilance due to the active circulation of the virus. This Wednesday, September 23, 2020, 90 departments are in a vulnerable situation including 69 in the red zone and the government should announce this evening a new list of “scarlet” departments.

Regarding the development of the situation Wednesday 23 September 2020, there is 10.008 new confirmed cases in 24 hours. There is therefore in total at least 468.069 people affected by coronavirus since the start of the epidemic in France. There is, this September 22, 2020, 4.244 new people hospitalized during the last 7 days in France, including 651 patients in intensive care. 78 people are deceased in France during the last 24 hours or 31,416 in total.

55 departments have a incidence rate, i.e. a number of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, greater than 50 and one unfavorable epidemic dynamics. They are therefore now located in the red zone or Active virus circulation area. Concretely, this means that prefects of these departments will be able promptly take further preventive and restrictive measures as well as new sanitary rules to try to stem the spread of the Coronavirus.

List of metropolitan areas in the scarlet zone: Marseille – Bordeaux – Lyon – Nice – Lille – Toulouse – Saint-Étienne – Rennes – Paris and inner suburbs – Rouen – Grenoble and Montpelier:

  • Lowering of the gathering gauge to 1,000, provided that health protocols are strictly observed.
  • Ban on major declared events (local and student parties).
  • Ban on gatherings of more than 10 people in public spaces (beaches, parks, etc.).
  • Early closure of bars from Monday at 10 p.m. maximum, the exact closing time will be defined by the prefect.
  • Closure of all party rooms and multi-purpose rooms for all festive or associative activities.
  • Closing of sports halls and gymnasiums from Monday.
