Many Zeeland high school students start school year without books

Not a single student of Pontes Scholengroep, with branches in Zierikzee and Goes, has received his books. About 2,800 high school students have to start the school year without teaching materials because the supplier cannot deliver the books on time. The problem is also present at other schools in Zeeland.

Paula Nooijer, director of operations of Pontes Scholengroep is not happy. “I think: you have been supplying school books for years, you know the process from A to Z. How is this possible?”, she tells. Broadcasting Zeeland.

At the CSW in Middelburg they expect the books to be received by next Thursday at the latest. It is also a hit at Zeeland-Flemish secondary schools in Hulst, Terneuzen and Oostburg, although there are also students who have already received their book package.

Another appeal to adaptability

Pontes Scholengroep therefore once again appeals to the adaptability of the teachers. “In corona time they have shown their creativity, so I am confident that it will be fine, but it does require extra effort. That is just not nice,” says Nooijer. “We were really looking forward to a good start after the messy year due to corona.”

Book supplier Van Dijk could not be reached for a response, but the answering machine states that all courses have been informed of the late delivery, and that all books will be delivered by 6 September at the latest. But Omroep Zeeland reports that this is not correct: not all schools have received such a message.
