Many Transactions Switch to Digital, Bank BNI Ensures to Close 96 Branch Offices This Year

JAKARTA – The enormity of digital financial transactions continues to erode the number of manual transactions at bank branch offices. As a result, the existence of manual offices began to decrease.

It seems like what happened to PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI. BNI said, transactions served by tellers at branch offices continued to decline. Usually, one teller that can do 150 to 200 transactions, has now decreased by almost 60 percent.

The transaction switching factor is one of the reasons for BNI to reduce the number of branch offices. Apart from the switch to digital, other factors are business as usual, related to the optimization of existing outlets, business considerations, the lease period for the location to expire, including the implementation of Qonun in Aceh (Conversion to Sharia).

Therefore, this year, BNI will close 96 branch offices throughout Indonesia.

BNI’s Corporate Secretary, Mucharom emphasized that his party would not lay off a single employee even though 96 offices were closed, and his party even held recruitment in several work units

“We don’t have even one employee laid off. Employees who happen to have their outlets closed have been transferred to the nearest outlet according to their competence. Especially when it comes to the implementation of Qonun in Aceh, they still work there but with different entities. So there are absolutely no layoffs,” Mucharom said to MNC Portal Indonesia, Saturday (15/5/2021).

“These outlets have the types of Branch Offices, Sub-Branch Offices, Cash Offices, and payment points,” he said.

BNI ensures that service to customers remains a priority because customers will still be able to visit the nearest outlets, use Mobile Banking, BNI Direct, BNI Sonic machines, CRM, and others. Previously, it was reported that BNI plans to close 96 branch offices throughout Indonesia this year. This is due to the rapid pace of digital transactions by customers. ***
