About 60 people had to be decontaminated after what is described as a “chemical incident” at an attraction in the Splashtown theme park in Spring, Texas. It writes the fire department of Harris County on Twitter.
A spokesman for the authorities said at a press conference that the incident started at a swimming pool for children. A lifeguard first became ill, then several children came out of the pool and had trouble breathing, writes ABC.
It is the bleaching agent hypochlorite and sulfuric acid that has leaked out, writes AP.
According to the news station KHOU 26 were transported to hospital, while 39 others were exposed to the discharge. Many had irritated skin and breathing problems, according to the channel. Everyone who has been affected by the incident is now decontaminated.
The condition of a three-year-old was more serious, but the condition should be stable according to AP.
The amusement park is now closed, writes Fox News.
“The safety of our guests and workers is our highest priority, and the park was immediately emptied while we tried to find the oar,” spokeswoman Rosie Shepard said according to the AP.
– As a safety measure, the park is closed for the day.
An investigation has been launched into what happened.
