Many thousands of people in Minsk went on protest on Sunday against the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko, but militias used water jets against the protesters.
Interfax reports that more than 100 thousand people have taken to the streets of the Belarusian capital.
In some places, militia have sent colored water from water jets to protesters. The protesters managed to damage one of the launchers.
The Omons have detained protesters in several places. No information is yet available on the number of detentions.
Protest marches are also taking place elsewhere in Belarus, including Brest, Vitebsk and Žodina.
