This is evident from a poll among teachers of the Trade Union Teachers in Action (LIA), about which De Telegraaf writes. A large majority of teachers are seriously concerned about the work situation.

LIA chairman Peter Althuizen tells the newspaper that teachers’ concerns are not being taken seriously.
Keep distance
“Our poll shows that three quarters of the teachers want more mandatory precautions in the classroom,” says Althuizen. “For example by working with half groups, so that both teachers and children can keep their distance from each other. But they don’t want to hear that in The Hague because the school has become a kind of shelter for children of working parents.”

The LIA foreman says that he knows many teachers who are at home with corona complaints. “I sometimes think: will they only take action when the first teacher dies from corona?”
Wear test
The General Education Union (Aob) is also concerned. According to chairman Eugenie Stolk, it still takes a long time before teachers have the results of their corona test. “This means that lessons are lost unnecessarily. And during this time it is quickly mopping with the tap open,” she says.

Minister Slob (Education) says that he understands very well that teachers are concerned about their health. “That is why it is also necessary that students keep their distance from the teacher and that the other basic rules are properly observed.”
The minister, like the secondary school council, does not see much in the idea of working with smaller classes. “It is very important that children are taught at school as much as possible. According to the OMT, that is also justified.”
