For example, Felyx shared scooters will be locked out at 9pm on Saturdays. The scooters will be switched back on Sunday morning at 8am so they can be unlocked again via the accompanying app. Check Contestant’s scooters will be blocked one hour later, at 10pm.
Consultation with the police
In addition, both companies have agreed to completely remove scooters from the streets of some cities. A Felyx spokesperson explains that this decision was made after consulting with municipalities and the police, who indicated which places they would prefer not to have scooters on New Year’s Eve.
It is not known if and how many scooters were destroyed in the previous New Year’s Eve. It is also not known whether the GO Sharing scooters are usable on New Year’s Eve. Last year, the company simply let the scooters ride all evening and into the night.
Shared cars are available
With shared cars, the precautions are less extensive. For example, Greenwheels reports that in some places they move cars from their permanent location to temporary parking, but that the cars remain available.
“We think it’s very important to give our users the opportunity to celebrate the New Year with family, friends or acquaintances,” explains a spokesperson. SHARE NOW, which mainly offers car sharing in Amsterdam, takes no extra precautions.
