Kremlin Spokesperson: Many People in Russia Behave Like Traitors. PHOTO/TASS
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the comments a day after President Vladimir Putin delivered a stern warning to Russian “traitors” whom he said the West wanted to use as a “fifth column” to destroy the country.

“In difficult times like these, many people show their true colors. Very many people present themselves, as we say in Russian, as traitors,” Peskov told reporters on a conference call.
Peskov also replied to Putin’s statement that Russia would undergo a natural “self-purification”, because people can “distinguish true patriots from trash and traitors”.
“They themselves are disappearing from our lives. Some people are leaving their positions, some are leaving their active working lives, some are leaving the country and moving to other countries. That’s how this cleansing happens,” he explained.

The Kremlin leader’s comments were greeted in parliament by Gennady Zyuganov, the head of the Communist Party whose nominally opposition has often supported Putin on key policy matters.
“We have to beat the fifth column that is entrenched inside and ready to stab us in the back at any moment,” he said. “All these problems started in 1991 when (the first president of modern Russia Boris) Yeltsin (and) his clique sold and betrayed the country,” he continued.
