Pep Guardiola began his golden era as a coach at Barcelona in the 2008-2012 period. He led El Barca to glory with 14 trophies that he presented, some of which were three LaLiga titles and two Champions League titles.
This result came with Guardiola carrying a style of play that relied on ball possession with short foot-to-foot passes. Guardiola continues to follow this philosophy until now he has coached Manchester City.
Guardiola also skyrocketed the name Lionel Messi who is now regarded as one of the best players ever. Guardiola has well developed the great talent of La Pulga.
Messi said Guardiola was one of the coaches who coached him. The Argentinian star believes Guardiola’s philosophy is going well at Barcelona.
Not surprisingly, many coaches want to emulate Guardiola. However, Messi stressed that many have failed to apply Guardiola’s style of play.
The reason is that imitating Guardiola’s style of play is not as easy as it seems. This makes Messi feel that on the other hand Guardiola is also destroying football.
“Pep is the best coach I’ve ever had,” Messi told Movistar.
“Everything he plans always comes to fruition. He’s special in the way he sees things, prepares games and communicates.
“Guardiola is also doing football very badly because it seems too easy, so simple that everyone wants to emulate him. Then I find a lot of ‘Guardiola’ out there and you realize what we do, what it is about.” He explained.
