In view of the complicated situation of the epidemic caused by Marburg virus in Africa, the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health) has just issued an urgent message on proactive monitoring, detection and control of the Marburg epidemic entering our country.
The Ministry of Health is calling for border quarantine to be tightened to prevent the entry of diseases caused by the Marburg virus
Accordingly, the Department of Preventive Medicine requested the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology/Pasteur; The Center for International Medical Quarantine and the Center for Disease Control of provinces and cities with medical quarantine activities update information on countries and territories where cases of Marburg disease are recorded to inform persons subject to medical quarantine from these areas upon entry or transit subject to, increased and proactively closely monitoring and importing across border gates in our country; Full implementation of personal protective measures for officials, employees and people who come into contact with suspected cases of the disease to prevent the infection from spreading to medical personnel and the community.
Units prepare temporary quarantine rooms and areas for use by suspected or infectious cases at the border crossing (if necessary); At the same time, training will be conducted to improve the competence of medical quarantine officers in monitoring and combating Marburg disease and in infection prevention.
The Department of Preventive Medicine also requires that functional units and localities organize communication at border crossings for passengers and people about preventive measures, in particular the need to immediately notify medical facilities if within 21 days from the moment symptoms and epidemiological factors related to the Determine Marburg disease Date of entry into Vietnam; Review and update emergency plans to respond to epidemic situations in Marburg at each border crossing with the participation and coordination of the authorities at the border crossing and local health authorities.
The Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology/Pasteur advises, trains and supports communities on surveillance and prevention measures, sampling and safe transport of samples. Obtain clinical samples for diagnosis of Marburg disease from local communities; Further strengthening the capacity to test and diagnose Marburg disease, as well as review and strengthen the rapid response team in the unit, ready to respond when suspected or infected cases are registered on site.
Marburg virus disease is becoming increasingly complicated
Through the infectious disease surveillance system, Rwanda (Africa) has recorded the first case of Marburg disease in that country since the end of September 9. As of October 2024, 10 cases have been recorded, including 10 deaths in 58 of 13 districts of the country, about 7% of cases affected medical personnel.
Marburg disease is a dangerous infectious disease caused by the Marburg virus. This is a virus transmitted from animals to humans that causes severe bleeding in many parts of the body. The disease is transmissible and has a mortality rate of over 80%.
There is currently no vaccine or specific treatment for the disease caused by Marburg virus. The disease is classified as Group A in Vietnam’s Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Law.
