Many Covid Patients Experience Long-Term Brain Fog, Think So Slow

Surabaya, Celah.id Brain fog is one of the long-term effects that are usually experienced by those affected by COVID-19.

Healthline quoted CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (3/8/2022), that brain fog is not actually a medical diagnosis.

In contrast, brain fog is a general term used to describe a condition in which a person feels mentally slow or in other terms sluggish.

Associate professor of neurology from Harvard Medical School, Tamara Fong said, brain fog can affect a person’s cognitive abilities.

Cognition refers to the processes in the brain that we use to think, read, learn, remember, analyze, and pay attention.

Cognitive impairment is a decrease in the ability to perform one or more thinking skills.

Even Covid patients who experience only mild symptoms can still be exposed to the long-term effects of brain fog.

How long does brain fog last?

Brain fog can heal on its own. But in some cases, brain fog can last for weeks or even months after the illness has passed.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently announced new findings that it believes have relevance to the long-term effects of COVID.

Their new study suggests the body’s immune response to infection from COVID-19 damages blood vessels in the brain. This is what causes neurological symptoms like brain fog.

Symptoms of brain fog can include:

– memory problems
– hard to concentrate
– headache
– confusion
– mentally lethargic
