Eleven of the sixteen residents of a residential care center in the former Gemma monastery in Sittard are infected with the corona virus. Six of the thirty employees have also been tested positive.

That reports the Limburger.
Mild complaints
Noor Nezami, director of the Nobama Care care organization, which includes the Gemma Monastery Residence, confirms the infections. “Last Wednesday, a few people developed complaints. We then approached the GGD to test people. A day later we heard that eleven residents and six staff members had tested positive.” According to Nezami, everyone has mild complaints.
Quarantine
Elderly people who need intensive care live in the residential care center. The average age of the residents is 85 years and they all have a memory impairment. The residential care center is aimed at people with dementia.
All residents are currently in quarantine in their rooms and, according to the director, are ‘cared for with much love’. For residents who have tested positive, the quarantine lasts until January 28; the others normally have full freedom of movement again from 24 January. “But next Tuesday, the other residents and staff will be tested again for control, and if they still turn out to be positive, they will also have to be in quarantine for longer.”
British variant also investigated
According to Nezami, the GGD sends samples of the tests taken to the laboratory to investigate whether it concerns the ‘regular’ or the much more contagious British corona mutation. “But we haven’t heard anything about this from the GGD, so I assume that the latter is not the case.”
