Many companies donate old electrical appliances

02/17/2021 | study

Smartphones, monitors, notebooks, printers: every fourth company in Germany donates functional but no longer used electrical devices to charitable organizations, reports the digital association Bitkom.

14 percent of the companies give away their discarded devices to employees, eleven percent sell them at a discount to the workforce. Only seven percent of the companies sell old electrical appliances externally. That is the result of a study commissioned by the Bitkom digital association.

According to this, more than every second company ensures that these devices are disposed of properly; disposal with the usual commercial waste does not take place. Every third company also keeps unused old devices. Most companies combine several possibilities of reuse, recovery and disposal.

Bitkom recommends reusing discarded electrical devices in the B2B area, recycling them professionally via a certified waste management company or, depending on the agreement, returning them directly to the manufacturer. It is important to report the disposed electrical devices to the ear foundation, which in most cases is the responsibility of the company. In this way, every company can help achieve the collection quota for waste electrical and electronic equipment in Germany.
