It is not the first time that We at the ProiezionidiBorsa editorial team have written about rare coins that many collectors are looking for. We have focused a lot on the euro, in particular on the euro coins 2 euro now in the next lines we will talk about an old currency or the lira.
Specifically, the denomination to which we will refer will be the 500 lire. In fact, many are looking for these 3 500 lire coins but one in particular is worth gold. In general the 500 lire are considered very common apart from those produced in 1957. However, there are some productions that are noteworthy.
We are not referring only to the 500 silver lire of 1965 minted on the occasion of the seventh centenary of the birth of Dante Alighieri.
Nor to the Italian Bimetallic 500 lire. Instead, we are talking about the highly sought after 500 silver lire minted for the first Centenary of the Unification of Italy (1861-1961). In addition to the last copy of 500 lire before the changeover to the euro.

Regarding the coins of the Centenary of the Unification of Italy, about 27 million pieces were minted in just three years, using the 1961 mold. This means that also for 1962, and 1963 only the date of 1961 is present.
The 500 silver lire of the Unification of Italy have an average value of 8 euros in SPL (splendid, that is, a coin that has very little circulated with all the reliefs perfectly intact).
While the specimens of 500 lire silver in FDC (i.e. uncirculated, or that there are no particular signs of circulation) can have a value between 15 and 18 euros.

Let’s pass, instead, to the last specimen of 500 lire proof coin before the advent of the euro minted in 2001. About 10 thousand specimens have been produced and its value is around 200 euros.
After that year the minting it was suspended to facilitate the transition to the new currency. Therefore its rarity is due to the fact that it is the last example of 500 lire created before the single currency.
