Mexico City. The results for June 2024 of the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry (Emim) showed a decline in the use of production factors: personnel employed, hours worked and average real wages, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
In June 2024, the manufacturing industry reported a monthly decrease of 0.1 percent in employed personnel, after two previous consecutive increases; while compared to the sixth month of 2023, employment in the manufacturing industry contracted by 2.1 percent, thus adding 10 annual downward readings.
Emim, prepared by Inegi, estimated that in June 2024 a total of 4 million 836 thousand 116 people were employed in the manufacturing industry.
By type of contract, the number of non-dependent personnel fell by 1.3 percent and the number of dependent personnel fell by 0.1 percent. The number of production workers and technicians fell by 0.1 percent and the number of administrative, accounting and management employees fell by 0.3 percent.
In the manufacturing sector, seasonally adjusted data showed that hours worked decreased by 0.1 percent in June compared to May, and average real wages paid (salaries, wages and social benefits) decreased by 0.4 percent on a monthly basis.
On an annual basis, hours worked fell by 2.6 percent, while average real wages rose by 2.5 percent.
The number of hours worked by employees dependent on the company decreased by 0.1 percent, the number worked by production workers and technicians decreased by 0.2 percent, and the number worked by administrative, accounting, and management employees increased by 0.2 percent. The number worked by non-dependent employees increased by 0.2 percent.
On a disaggregated basis, wages paid to employees dependent on the company fell by 0.4 percent per month. Salaries paid to administrative, accounting and management employees fell by 0.8 percent; salaries paid to workers and production technicians fell by 0.3 percent; and social benefits, contributions and profits did not change. Salaries paid to non-dependent employees increased by 3.4 percent.
The manufacturing sector uses 81.1 percent of its installed plant capacity, an increase of 2.1 percent compared to June 2023.
The highest utilization of installed capacity in manufacturing in June was in the manufacture of transportation equipment (92.1 percent) and the lowest in tanning and finishing of leather and skin, and manufacturing of leather, skin and substitute materials products.
