Manuel Neuer announces his retirement from the German national team

Through social networks, the goalkeeper of Bayern Munich He revealed that, despite feeling well physically facing the World Cup 2026made the decision after discussing the issue with those close to him.

“After more than 15 years and 124 national matches, my career with the German national football team ends today. Anyone who knows me knows that I did not take this decision lightly. I feel very good physically and of course I was also looking forward to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. And yet, after many long and intensive discussions with my family and friends, I have decided that now is the right time to close my chapter in the national team,” he wrote.

Neuer also thanked all the people who have supported him throughout this long period as a national team member.

“Many thanks to all the staff, supervisors, coaches and also my fellow players who have supported me since my debut in the national team on June 2, 2009. And I want to especially thank you, dear fans, for supporting me all these years! I loved wearing the national team jersey,” he added.

Manuel Neuer played a total of 124 matches for the German national team, participating in all kinds of tournaments such as World Cups, European Championships, Nations Leagues and Confederations Cups. He was also key in obtaining the World Cup in Brazil 2014.
