Manuel Lettenbichler Wins Erzbergrodeo 2023, Mario Román Abandons

Erzbergrodeo 2023: Lettenbichler repeats victory, abandonment of Román

The second round of the Hard Enduro World Championship, the historic Erzbergrodeo, ended with another victory for Manuel Lettenbichler. Mario Román abandoned after a hard fall.

The discipline of Hard Enduro it would not be understood without races like the Erzbergrodeo. One more year, the Red Bull Hare Scramble became the mecca of this modality and served to consolidate Manuel Lettenbichler as its current referent.

The Erzbergrodeo became the second round of the 2023 Hard Enduro World Championship, which had already started a few weeks earlier in Serbia with Lettenbichler’s own victory ahead of the Spanish Mario Román, current champion and runner-up of the discipline, respectively.

Unfortunately, a strong fall for the Spanish driver left him out of the race this time in Erzberg, in a test that started with its traditional prologue as a sieve, since of the 1,500 registered only 500 remained classified to face the main race.

Andrew Veronacurrent EnduroGP World Champion, was the fastest in the Forewordbut his speed gave way to the dominance of the great Hard Enduro experts in the race on Sunday.

There was a great fight between Mani Lettenbichler and Billy Bolt, but the defending champion hit a table top in the Motorex Highway section, where he escaped solo to his second win in a row at the Erzbergrodeo. Billy Bolt he overcame several technical problems resulting from the toughness of this race to finish second, while Trystan Hart closed out the podium.

With the notable abandonment of Mario Román due to a fall, alfredo gomez ended up being the great Spanish standard-bearer in a historic proof that he has already won twice: solo in 2017 and shared in 2015 with Walker, Jarvis and Andreas Lettenbichler in the controversial 2015 edition. On this occasion, the man from Madrid experienced a new phase in his adaptation to the Rieju, finishing eighth.

The Erzbergrodeo lived up to its history and only 17 pilots managed to finish the race within the four hour time limit. Even so, it is a substantial improvement compared to 2022, since in last year’s edition there were only eight drivers who were able to finish it.
