Castile and Leon | President of the Junta de Castilla y León
The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, this afternoon attended the presentation of the new facilities of Bodegas Matarromera, where he highlighted the firm commitment of the regional Executive for the Community to continue leading the agricultural and agri-food innovation of Spain, for which the best technology is being put at the service of the field.
As examples, Fernández Mañueco has pointed out the implementation of space technology applied to agriculture, with a free public service unique in Spain to act via satellite from the mobile on crops (irrigation or fertilization). And as for SMEs, the most advanced technology is offered to optimize processes of transformation, preservation and extension of the useful life of food.
The President of the Board has ensured that the agri-food sector in Castilla y León is advancing rapidly on this path of modernization and that for this he has the help of the Board, which is committed to creating digital and sustainable solutions to increase competitiveness; promoting research and knowledge transfer through the Agrarian Technological Institute, which is at the forefront of Europe.
Matarromera is on this path of modernization and innovation, led by Carlos Moro, as highlighted by the president, as a clear example of a sector, wine, which leads the Community’s agri-food exports. “25% of the quality wine that is sold outside our borders is from Castilla y León”, he stated, after thanking the work carried out by the Regulatory Councils of the denominations of origin of Castilla y León, which he encouraged to continue betting on the differentiated quality of one of the star products of the Community.
In this sense, Fernández Mañueco has guaranteed that the regional executive is and will be at the side of the wine sector, with aid for investments in wineries, and the promotion of wine in third countries. Likewise, support for wine tourism has been increased, a sector that Castilla y León leads in Spain with 8 certified Wine Routes, in which 320 municipalities and 600 companies participate.
