Kochi ∙ Former government pleader PG Manu, who was arrested in a molestation case, approached the High Court seeking bail. The court sought the government’s response to the petition and will consider the case again next week. The petition was filed citing health problems. Manu Puthankurish had surrendered to the police on January 31 after the High Court and the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. A case has been registered under the rape and IT departments.

The bail application states that he has health problems and has been in judicial custody since his arrest. The investigation team questioned him several times. He is diabetic. The woman approached the police regarding the withdrawal of the molestation complaint registered in 2018 and following their advice approached the government lawyer Manu. This was on September 9, 2023. He had attacked the young woman who had come to the office with her father that day. The woman was called again on 11th saying that she would help withdraw the case and tortured her in the office. In the 2018 case, the woman and her father were threatened to be accused. Then he took a nude picture and sent obscene messages to the girl. The prosecution case is that the accused broke into the woman’s house on 24th and raped her there.
But it has been stated in the bail petition that the accused is innocent and has not committed any crime. It is also stated in the petition that the complaint was filed a month after the alleged torture took place. But after registering the case, Manu called the woman’s phone and recorded the conversations between her mother and brother, and from this it is clear that the accused committed the crime. The prosecution had clarified these matters by opposing Manu’s anticipatory bail plea.
