Manor Lords – army, how to recruit, militia, entourage

Default game mode in Manor Lords takes into account the threats posed by bandits and neighboring rulers. To deal with them, you can try diplomacy, but more often you will be forced to engage in skirmishes. Here we will explain how to prepare the equipment and recruit militia units and mercenaries.

On this page:

Crafting weapons and armor

Craft workshops, to be precise, deal with the production of weapons blacksmith workshop. You can produce hand weapons (swords), pole weapons and spears there. The basic raw material is metal ore melted into bars in Dymarka. Spears and poles also require boards. You can also craft bows from wood in the workshop and shields in the carpentry workshop.

To craft protective clothing and armor, craft gambesons in the tailor’s workshop (you need linen, which is made from field-grown flax). Steel armor requires technology unlocking Weaponry, which will unlock the armorer’s workshop. Reinforced clothing is not required to recruit militia, but it will certainly increase their survivability.

Building an army – militia, mercenaries

Another thing is the people you include in the army. These can only be men among your subordinates who are not craftsmen. To start recruitment, click on swords icon [1]then w ikonę plusa [2].

Choose unit type [3]which you want to recruit, a below [4] their icon will appear if the recruitment was successful. To hire mercenaries, select button on the right [5]. The offer of mercenaries varies, and to recruit them you must have money in the treasury. The amount indicated in the offer must be paid every month!

The militia unit will be as large as the number of free inhabitants you have and the ability to supply them with weapons – if one of the requirements is missing, the unit will be created, but it will be incomplete (it may consist of even only five armed men).

You can disband or re-establish the group at any time. After the militiamen are delegated, the residents will return to their homes with the equipment from their allocation and will be ready when called. To call a militia, select the group icon and click the button collection. After a while, you can control the group created this way.

The initial stages of the game allow you to recruit four types of units – provided you have the appropriate equipment for a given role:

  • Foot militia – required handgun and small shield
  • Militia with spears – Spear and large shield required
  • Militia with bows – bow required
  • Militia with polearms – Polearm required

Each unit can wear any type of armor, but it is not required for their recruitment.

Entourage – how to recruit

Additionally, the lord has his own entourage, which will appear when you build the estate. Each of these units is fully armed and constitutes an elite army – you cannot disband this group like a militia. You can customize their appearance by clicking on their icon and then the button pędzla.

On the next screen you can customize the appearance of your soldiers. From here you are also able recruit more units [6] for gold from the treasury. In this window you can also promote a resident to a courtier if you make him visible to the right [7] equipment (including chain mail, which requires the Advanced Weaponsmithing technology).

To equip a courtier with plate armor (which you cannot do with regular policemen – they are not trained enough to use such equipment), click Armor Upgrade button [8].

Purchasing the armor costs 18 units from the treasury, if your local workshop produces it – 9, and the money will go to the craftsman (i.e. it will be transferred from the treasury to “Region Wealth”). The number of entourage comes down to only one unit, which can initially consist of 12 units, and after being built garrison tower at the estate, this number increases to 24.
