“Manol Peykov from Plovdiv named Man of the Year by Radio Darik for Active Volunteer Work”

Recognition for Plovdiv too! Manol Peykov is Man of the Year in the ranking of Radio “Darik”.

At a solemn ceremony in Sofia, the awards in the next edition of the competition for the period 2022-2023 were handed out. 78% of those who voted supported the nomination of the public figure from Plovdiv because of his active volunteer work. Hristo Hristov, CEO of Darik Radio, presented Manol Peykov with a Bulgarian, Russian-style cavalry saber from 1883, a symbol of honor and dignity that every Man of the Year possesses.

According to world tradition, in the nomination of “Man of the Year” the teams of the media – organizers participate, who raise their nominations of men, according to their merits in the past year and/or the current year.

However, the deciding vote rests with the audience. From 04/03 to 04/30/23, voting took place on the manoftheyear.bg platform, where Darik’s nominations were announced: Albert Popov because of his achievement at the Alpine Skiing World Cup, which Bulgaria has not had for 39 years. TEAM: Vesselin Georgiev and Milko Mikhalkov for the rescue of little Sashko by Pernik and Manol Peykov because of his active volunteer activity to collect financial and material aid for the people affected by the war in Ukraine, and by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

The young bTV reporter Beste Sabri took this year’s Miss TV Char award, Tenko Nikolov and Ivo Tsanov, with their foundation “For an Example”, became Social Entrepreneurs of the Year. Darik’s special award was given to the composer Stefan Dimitrov, and Legend – to Itzko Finci, who turned 90 this year.

Manol Peykov is a public figure from Plovdiv, publisher, translator and politician, owner of “Zhanet 45” publishing house, winner of the national award “Hristo G. Danov” (2016). His nomination in the “Man of the Year” competition was raised because of his active volunteer work to collect financial and material aid for the people affected by the war in Ukraine, and by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

In November 2022, Manol Peykov calls on the public, through social networks, to collect funds for the purchase of gasoline generators for the bombed cities of Ukraine. Many donors immediately responded and in just 5 days the sum of BGN 250,000 was collected. To date, the campaign is still active with more than BGN 1,100,000 collected and nearly 450 generators provided (purchased or donated).

Just three months later, on February 6, 2023, the world awoke to the devastation of the merciless earthquake in Turkey and Syria. This time, in less than 24 hours, again with Manol Peykov’s campaign, 220,000 BGN were collected from donors to help the victims. In the coming days, the amount reached 1,300,000 BGN, and in addition convoys of tires with donations from the first of necessity leave every day from Plovdiv and Stara Zagora to the people across the border.
