Mannheim loses to Langnau » Adler Mannheim

The Adler Mannheim lost their second game this weekend in Switzerland. In the Emmental Insurance Arena, the team of head coach Dallas Eakins lost 1:4 to the SCL Tigers. The only goal for Mannheim was scored by Leon Gawanke.

Due to a petty interpretation of the rules by the referees, both teams had difficulty finding their rhythm in the first 20 minutes. The game was very disjointed for long stretches, and an orderly build-up of play was rare. Rather, the chances resulted from carelessness or positioning errors when moving backwards. The home team’s best chances were Samuel Erni, who hit the outside post in the 17th minute, and Sean Malone, who was free and stopped by Arno Tiefensee (18th). In between, Samuel Soramies shot from the right for the Adler, but Tigers goalkeeper Luca Boltshauser saved with his pads (17th).

In the second period, the home team initially had more of the game, and the lead through Dario Rohrbach shortly after the restart was well deserved (23′). The home team could have increased the score to 2-0 shortly afterwards, but Jusso Riikola and Pascal Berger were defeated by Tiefensee (both 26′). And just as the Tigers’ pressure was increasing, the Eagles equalized – Leon Gawanke’s shot from the blue line was deflected unstoppably by a Langnau player (27′). The game then developed into an evenly matched affair, both teams had their moments, but Tiefensee and his counterpart prevented any further goals for the time being.

Nothing changed at the start of the final period. With one more man on the ice, Daniel Fischbuch missed the Mannheim lead, his backhand shot was parried by Boltshauser with his pad (44th minute). On the other side, Rohrbach failed to beat Tiefensee from a tight angle (46th minute). Shortly afterwards, the Adler increased the pressure, but Lukas Kälble and Markus Hännikäinen were stopped by the Tigers’ goalkeeper (48th minute). The hosts were more effective, Claudio Cadonau reacted quickly after a shot and made it 2-1 with a backhand (51st minute). And the Tigers added a third goal shortly afterwards: With the power play on, it was Julian Schmutz who beat Tiefensee (53rd minute). When head coach Dallas Eakins put everything on the line and took Tiefensee off the ice in favor of a sixth field player, Berger made it 4-1 (59th minute).
