Mannheim / Speyer / Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The Judo Sport Club Speyer (JSV) won the SportAward Rhein-Neckar in the “Top Role Model Club” category and prevailed against the clubs from TV Schwetzingen 1864 eV and TV 1897 Sennfeld eV.
The project title was: Vision Inclusion
The Speyer Judo Sports Club sees itself as a family community that wants to offer a home for everyone and embraces diversity. Inclusion has accompanied the club for almost 15 years, when a judo group for people with intellectual disabilities was founded for the first time. Further inclusion offers for all age groups:
“Krabbeltiger”: an offer for families with small children with disabilities to get to know the sports hall and playfully try out their own skills on movement landscapes during children’s gymnastics.
“Turntiger”: Primary school children with physical or mental limitations find their place in supervised small groups.
“Strong Girls”: an open girls’ club for young women with intellectual disabilities who spend their free time together.
ID-Judo: our judo group for people with intellectual disabilities has grown and now takes part in international tournaments.
Fun and play group: Adults with disabilities find a place here where they are motivated to exercise. However, the participants prefer joint activities such as eating ice cream, excursions, fan clubs, Advent tea, etc. to sports.
“Forest Tiger”: Children who find it difficult to fit into rigid frameworks and rules (as is common in indoor sports) feel at home in our forest group.
In total, the association looks after around 120 children, young people, adults and seniors with disabilities.
Goals and implementation:
We want to enable people with disabilities to participate and participate in the club. The difficulty lies in reaching the target group. To achieve this, we work with various cooperation partners (integrative daycare center, special needs school, early intervention of the city of Speyer, life support, psychological day clinic, etc.). We offer sports groups, invite young people to leisure activities, organize competitions according to their abilities, organize inclusive family celebrations and are part of a network , which offers assistance or inclusive activities within the city of Speyer. Volunteer trainers and permanent employees organize and supervise the offerings.
New goal: we want to reach the target group as early as possible, take away their fear of the sports club and win new members in order to further develop inclusion in the club.
Schedule:
Summer 2024: “Strong Girls” excursion to the Kurpfalz Park (Wachenheim)
Fall 2024: Inclusive family festival
Fall 2024: new permanent group for small children with disabilities
Sept. 2024: including trip to Neuwied (20 years of Special Olympics RLP)
Oct. 2024: joint training of ID judoka + Bundesliga athletes
Easter 2025: Sibling holidays for families with children with disabilities
