Manizales cultivates young readers: “Story Explorers” ignites a passion for books

Manizales continues to support education and culture from early childhood. The Secretariat of Culture and Civics, through the Municipal Public Library, carried out the successful activity “Little Story Explorers” at the 7 de Agosto Educational Institution.

With a suitcase full of stories, fables and tales, 50 first-grade children immersed themselves in a world of adventure and fantasy. The initiative seeks to awaken a love for reading from an early age, fostering the comprehensive development of children.

Gloria Elena Londoño, Reading, Writing and Orality Promoter, highlighted the enthusiastic participation of children and teachers, who valued this experience as a unique opportunity to bring the little ones closer to the wonderful world of books.

Why is it important to promote reading in early childhood?

Reading from an early age provides multiple benefits to children, such as:

  • Cognitive development: Stimulates imagination, creativity and critical thinking.
  • Vocabulary expansion: Enriches language and improves reading comprehension.
  • Emotional development: Promotes empathy, understanding and problem solving.

How can you participate?

The Department of Culture and Civics invites the entire community to visit the Municipal Public Library and satellite libraries to enjoy a wide variety of services and activities. Parents, teachers and children can participate in workshops, reading clubs, storytelling sessions and much more.
