Manitoba passes the 2,000 death mark since the start of the pandemic | Coronavirus

According to the province’s latest report, 24 deaths from COVID-19 were confirmed last week, bringing Manitoba’s death toll to 2004.

The number of hospital admissions of people who have caught the virus is in decline. Between May 29 and June 4, the report shows 100 admissions, compared to 120 the previous week.

Seven people were admitted to intensive care units.

Manitoba’s weekly test positivity rate fell to 10.8% from 13% the previous week.

However, four outbreaks were declared last week, including three in long-term care facilities.

The outbreaks occurred at Tabor Home, St. Paul Personal Care Home, Calvary Place Personal Care Home and Concordia Hospital (N1 North Unit).

A total of 337 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by laboratory tests, a decrease from the 416 cases confirmed the previous week.

It is important to note that this is an undercount of the actual number of cases in Manitoba due to lack of access to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, the only type test whose results are registered by the province.

Last week, provincial labs conducted a daily average of 624 tests.
