Earlier, Marcos Jr. admitted he was surprised by the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian’s recent comments, adding that he would speak to him soon for clarification.

According to Marcos Jr., he and Qin had a very productive meeting and were also able to talk about the growing Philippines-China relationship.
“It is very, very useful and very, very productive that Minister Qin has come here and that we have been able to talk things through a bit, make plans for the future and continue to expand the Philippines-China relationship to work, not only in the economic sphere, but also in the cultural and educational sphere and in other areas,” said the President.
As for potential conflicts, Marcos Jr. and Qin said they agreed to set up more lines of communication so that any event that occurs in the West Philippine Sea affecting China and the Philippines can be resolved immediately.
“We are currently working on it and awaiting the Chinese response and we are confident that these issues can be resolved to the mutual benefit of our two nations,” Marcos Jr. added.
According to a report by 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday, Qin was accompanied by Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian during the meeting.
Several government officials, including Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Secretary of State Enrique Manalo and the President’s Special Assistant Anton Lagdameo, also attended the meeting.
Manalo and Qin had previously held a bilateral meeting.

During the meeting, the foreign minister said differences between the Philippines and China should not stand in the way of resolving the two countries’ South China Sea territorial dispute, adding that Manila intends to work closely with Beijing to strengthen economic ties.
For his part, Qin said China and the Philippines must work together to continue our tradition of friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and adequately resolve our differences in the spirit of credibility, consultation and dialogue.
Manalo urged China to strive to take our bilateral ties to even greater heights and do everything possible to ensure that the Philippines and China continue the positive development of our relationship, which has been elevated to full strategic cooperation since 2018.
He added that he will work to further diversify economic ties between the two countries and close the trade gap between our two economies. – GMA/KR
