VIENNA/MARKET. As the police announced on Monday night, it was said that a prisoner “escaped” from Mittersteig prison a few hours before. It is not officially known how the prisoner escaped. This much is clear: the police are actively looking for the missing person.
“The pursuit by prison guards and immediate investigative measures by the Vienna police have so far been unsuccessful. A personal detection dog from the police service dog unit as well as forces from the emergency unit and the responsible municipal police command has already been deployed,” it is explained in a broadcast. Further inquiries by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office about early intervention.
Help from the people
The people should now also help in finding the descendants. On the orders of the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, photographs of the 19-year-old were published.

He reportedly escaped over scaffolding
When asked by MeinBezirk, the police stressed that they could not provide any additional background information about how the man escaped. The Federal Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for detaining those who have been convicted, is responsible for this.
A spokesperson there explains that they cannot provide any information about the escape. “We are currently investigating what happened,” they assure us. However, since MeinBezirk was able to learn from security circles, it is said that the prisoner took advantage of the opportunity while he was working and he escaped.
He was assigned to some services as a prison house worker. The man is said to have reached freedom through a construction site gate on one of the upper floors and scaffolding outside. However, as already explained, this is not considered to be proven.
Already serving prison time
The Ministry of Justice provides more information to MeinBezirk. The prisoner is said to have already served his sentence and is currently in prison. Such measures are imposed on those who suffer from chronic mental illness.
As the media “Heute” was able to find out, it was initially said that the 19-year-old received a penalty for grievous bodily harm. However, the Ministry of Justice did not want to give a more detailed opinion on this on Monday night.
