Manhunt underway for dangerous suspect after violent attack in Graz-Geidorf

As the police only announced on Monday, there was a bloody act of violence in Graz-Geidorf on Friday evening. A 43-year-old Styrian is said to have attacked and injured his 59-year-old friend with an ax and two knives. Now the man with the photo is being searched for. He is considered dangerous.

On Friday around 10 p.m. an emergency call was received by the state control center. The victim’s wife raised the alarm. Several patrols rushed to the crime scene, an address on Schönbrunngasse in the Geidorf district. There they found a 59-year-old man with stab and cut injuries to the head and neck area. The Red Cross brought the injured man to the LKH Graz; the victim probably got off relatively lightly. She was able to leave the hospital after outpatient treatment. The murder weapons remained in the apartment: an ax and two knives.

Has long gun

The suspected attacker has been on the run since then. Based on previous investigations, the police assume that he committed the crime intentionally and is therefore investigating on suspicion of attempted murder. The 43-year-old is probably driving a Skoda Fabia with a Graz license plate. He also legally owns a firearm (shotgun). But it is not known whether he also has these with him, according to the police. The 43-year-old has health problems, which may also be the motive for the crime. Investigators classify the man as dangerous.

Call for witnesses

That’s why the police are appealing to the public with an urgent appeal for witnesses. The public prosecutor’s office not only ordered the release of mugshots, but also the full name of the suspect – a rather unusual procedure.

The police are asking for useful information about the fugitive’s whereabouts. Did anyone notice the person or their vehicle? In this case, you are asked to urgently contact the police (133) and the Styrian State Criminal Police Office (059-133-60-3333) or the responsible office (Graz City Police Command, Crime Department) on 059 133-65 3333.

Why so late?

Why are the police only going public with the case two days late? When the Kleine Zeitung asked the state police headquarters, they referred to tactical reasons for the investigation. In addition, the clear intent (which justifies the suspicion of attempted murder) only emerged during the course of the investigation.
