The man then fled and took refuge in a vast wood, escaping the device put in place by the police to arrest him, details the prosecutor.

Saturday evening, around 7 p.m., a vehicle was discovered burning in Cantenay-Épinard (Maine-et-Loire), north of Angers. “The vehicle in question belongs to a person who will be identified on Sunday morning and who lives in Chailland”. The owner, a 72-year-old man, former town mechanic and municipal councilor, was found dead at his home.

“The assumption that we make today is that the owner of the car will find his attacker when he returns home,” said the magistrate.

About fifty gendarmes mobilized

The man, with a dangerous criminological profile, “must be arrested before another tragedy”, affirmed the public prosecutor of Angers, specifying that “very active research” was underway in the northern area of ​​Angers.

According to Colonel Tanguy Landais, commander of the Maine-et-Loire gendarmerie group, 52 gendarmerie personnel are already engaged and more than 400 properties have been checked. Police officers from Angers take part in the hunt.
