Manhattan church celebrates annual bicycle blessing

As the weather improves, more and more cyclists take to the streets. And taking advantage of the good weather, the annual blessing of bicycles was carried out, with the aim of praying for a safe season.

Hundreds of cyclists of different religions flocked Saturday morning to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, at 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, in Manhattan.

The blessing has been taking place for 24 years, with the exception of the last two, due to the pandemic.

Faithful come to bless their vehicles.

During the ceremony, the blessing was performed and each bicycle was sprinkled with holy water.

The religious service was open to anyone who uses a bicycle, scooter or rollerblades to get around.
