NEW YORK – Two people were killed in an Upper West Side apartment fire Wednesday night, according to police.
A NYPD spokesperson says the flames started shortly before midnight on the fourth floor of Amsterdam Houses, a NYCHA building located on 62nd Street near Lincoln Center. First responders found a 44-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, as well as another person, who had inhaled smoke and transported them to hospital.
The two victims were pronounced dead, police said. The status of the other victim is unknown. Their identities have not been released.
It is not clear what caused the fire. Police say the crash possibly started in the laundry room, but the fire marshal will conduct a full investigation.
No other information was immediately available.
