The death of a 22-month-old Manhattan baby that occurred in June was ruled a homicide, New York City Police said Wednesday. Officers confirmed that the baby had fentanyl and cocaine in his body when he died.
No arrests have been made in the case of little Charles Rosa-Velloso, who was found unconscious, face down on a bed in his Baruch Place apartment. Officers found him after responding to a 9-1-1 call shortly after 4:00 a.m. on June 17.
The boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is unclear if the police have potential suspects in the case.
Rosa-Velloso’s death came more than two years after a 1-year-old boy in the Bronx died of similar drug-related causes. In that December 2018 case, investigators found that baby Darwin González-Santana had ingested fentanyl and heroin.
The minor was found dead in a taxi two days after Christmas that year. Later, his mother was charged with murder.
