On Saturday evening (May 22nd) the Italian band Måneskin was named the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 – but only a short time after the victory, the members were confronted with an unpleasant question. In the press conference after the show, a journalist addressed what some Twitter users said they had observed from the Green Room during the broadcast: Did singer Damiano David actually cook in front of an audience of millions?
The artist immediately denied, but later the band was forced to post a short statement on Instagram. It said that no one in the group had a problem getting tested to get the matter out of the way. Now, according to “Spiegel”, a statement from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) was added: “The band has sharply rejected all allegations of drug use and the singer in question will undergo a voluntary drug test after his return home.”
Måneskin was especially able to convince the audience with her song “Zitti E Buoni”. In the jury rating, the band was initially not a favorite.
