Sadio Mane exchanges Liverpool for Bayern Munich, the German record champion reported on Wednesday. The wing attacker signs a contract with the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2025.
Bayern are reportedly paying around 40 million euros for 30-year-old Mane, who still had a contract with Liverpool until mid-2023. The attacker has played for Liverpool since 2016, which took him over from Southampton for more than 40 million euros at the time.
At Anfield, Mané became one of the best signings in club history. In the 2018/2019 season he won the Champions League with ‘The Reds’ and a year later he was part of the team that became champions of England. Mané played 269 games for Liverpool and scored 120 times.
Bayern will be Mane’s fifth professional club. In addition to Liverpool and Southampton, he previously played for the French FC Metz (2011-2012) and the Austrian Red Bull Salzburg (2012-2014).
“I am happy to finally be in Munich. I immediately felt that this big club wanted me, so there were no doubts for me,” said the Senegalese international, who will meet the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Qatar.
In Munich, Mané will meet former Ajax players Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui. The pair made the switch this summer to Bayern, which crowned themselves champions of Germany for the 32nd time in club history last season.
